What to Do When Wisdom is Foolish
What to Do When Wisdom is Foolish
James 3:13-18 asks how we can overcome what keeps us from asking God for wisdom. Wisdom takes practical steps to follow His heavenly guidance. Wisdom experiences the transformation in relationships, work, and peace that comes from living within His boundaries.

Earthly wisdom creates instability while heavenly wisdom brings integrity.
There are two wisdoms and two worlds rooted in self or our Savior.

Two Wisdoms, Two Worlds
Earthly Wisdom produces Instability.
Heavenly Wisdom brings Integrity.
1. Wisdom isn't Information. Wisdom is Transformation.
2. Wisdom isn't Manipulation. Wisdom is Submission.

INFORMATION OVERLOAD!

Manipulation tries to control outcomes.
The Foolish are Careless.
The Mocker is Callous.
The Wise are Courageous.
The wise trust God with outcomes.
Wisdom isn't Information. Wisdom is Transformation.
Wisdom isn't Manipulation. Wisdom is Submission.
1. You need to know Jesus Personally.
2. You need to read the Bible Obediently.
3. You need to pray to God Humbly.
4. You need to fear God Reverently.

1.The sermon begins by asking about “the most foolish decision you’ve made.” Without oversharing, what’s a decision you regret, and what made it foolish in hindsight?
2.The passage says, “Life is interconnected — there are no isolated decisions.” How have you seen one decision in your life impact multiple areas?
3.James describes integrity as when “what I say matches how I live.” Where do you find it most challenging to maintain that integrity?
Wisdom: Earthly vs. Heavenly
4.According to James, what are the key differences between earthly wisdom and heavenly wisdom? Which do you see most in your daily environment?
5.What does it mean to be “humble (teachable)” when seeking wisdom from God? Why might humility be essential to receiving wisdom?
Living Within God’s “Fences”
6.The backyard fence analogy suggests that God gives freedom within boundaries. How do you personally view God’s boundaries — as restrictive or as protective? Why?
7. Can you think of a moment when you “played outside the fence” and experienced instability as a result?
8. How can we better recognize when we are about to “audible” against God’s direction in our lives?
9. Adam & Eve’s story is framed as a shift from trusting God’s goodness to grasping for autonomy. How does that same temptation show up in modern life?
10. What spiritual practices help you trust God’s leadership instead of insisting on your own control?
11. What is one practical step you can take this week to align more with heavenly wisdom than earthly wisdom?
