2 Corinthians 4:1-6

God wants to use our stories to reach others for Jesus. We should be willing to do anything short of sin to reach people who don't know Jesus Christ. Jesus shed light in the dark places, so we can share light in the dark places.

2 Corinthians 4:1-6 MSG

Since God has so generously let us in on what he is doing, we’re not about to throw up our hands and walk off the job just because we run into occasional hard times. We refuse to wear masks and play games. We don’t maneuver and manipulate behind the scenes. And we don’t twist God’s Word to suit ourselves. Rather, we keep everything we do and say out in the open, the whole truth on display, so that those who want to can see and judge for themselves in the presence of God.Since God has so generously let us in on what he is doing, we’re not about to throw up our hands and walk off the job just because we run into occasional hard times. No, it’s because these other people are looking or going the wrong way and refuse to give it serious attention. All they have eyes for is the fashionable god of darkness. They think he can give them what they want, and that they won’t have to bother believing a Truth they can’t see. They’re stone-blind to the dayspring brightness of the Message that shines with Christ, who gives us the best picture of God we’ll ever get.If our Message is obscure to anyone, it’s not because we’re holding back in any way. No, it’s because these other people are looking or going the wrong way and refuse to give it serious attention. All they have eyes for is the fashionable god of darkness. They think he can give them what they want, and that they won’t have to bother believing a Truth they can’t see. They’re stone-blind to the dayspring brightness of the Message that shines with Christ, who gives us the best picture of God we’ll ever get.Remember, our Message is not about ourselves; we’re proclaiming Jesus Christ, the Master. All we are is messengers, errand runners from Jesus for you. Glasses!

Things can affect the way we see the world, like glasses.
Paul looked at the world as if looking through reading glasses. He could only see details (rules). His detailed view of the world didn't allow him to see God at work. He was focused on the wrong thing.
On the road to Damascus, Paul had a similar experience as going to the eye doctor. A blinding, uncomfortable light was necessary to correct his faulty vision.
It’s not hard to tell that his experience on the road to Damascus drastically changed the way he saw the world. Paul does a complete 180 and begins to share the story of his encounter with Jesus in the form of letters. One of those letters is 2 Corinthians.

The persecutor became the persecuted.

Then Jesus went to work on his disciples. “Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat; I am. Don’t run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I’ll show you how. Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to finding yourself, your true self. What kind of deal is it to get everything you want but lose yourself? What could you ever trade your soul for?Then Jesus went to work on his disciples. “Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat; I am. Don’t run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I’ll show you how. Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to finding yourself, your true self. Matthew 5:14-16 MSG

“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. A light is useless unless it is present in the darkness. Light is meant for the darkness. So Paul is encouraging the Corinthians to confidently take their light out into the darkness, to face what was threatening to consume them. That’s why Paul immediately follows up by speaking to the darkness that surrounded and threatened to consume the Corinthians.

Our culture is constantly trying to sell us a new view of life. Our culture influences the way we see the world.

What is the main purpose of sunglasses? To block out light. These lenses, these views of life, that culture sells us do what sunglasses do: they darken our view.

Paul is not calling us to run from this situation. He actually wants us to do the opposite. Paul wants us to face the darkness head on. All of us have some form of darkness in our lives. All of us have been affected by death, disease, addiction, brokenness and suffering. With the truth of Jesus, darkness is an opportunity.
2 Corinthians 1:3-7 MSG

All praise to the God and Father of our Master, Jesus the Messiah! Father of all mercy! God of all healing counsel! He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us. We have plenty of hard times that come from following the Messiah, but no more so than the good times of his healing comfort—we get a full measure of that, too.All praise to the God and Father of our Master, Jesus the Messiah! Paul doesn’t want us to be afraid. He wants us to be aware.
Even the darkest of lenses cannot blot out all light.
God has granted each and every one of His followers the opportunity to carry His light out into the world, which is consumed by darkness.

There are many people out in the world who have a view of the world like eclipse glasses. They cannot see even the faintest hint of light.

In a world of darkness, our job is to point to the light.

The catch with eclipse glasses is that you actually can see light, but only the brightest light imaginable: the sun.

If you, like Paul, have encountered the light that is Jesus–point others to the source: the Son.

So go, be a light in the face of darkness. Be the someone that someone needs. Share the light that this world desperately needs.
