We've fixed plumbing, remodeled kitchens, replaced shingles, celebrated our teachers, and made a difference in a host of other opportunities. Your generosity matters. We offer Financial Peace University on a consistent basis for those who need financial help. It's a financial management system that allows multitudes to eliminate debt and live in freedom. Acts 2:42-47 NIV

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles.All the believers were together and had everything in common.They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere heartspraising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

1. We desire to be an intensely devoted.

2. We hope to be irrationally generous.

3. We strive to be unbelievably connected.

4. We plan to be unapologetically evangelistic.

1. We desire to be intensely devoted.

“They were devoted to their comfort, happiness, personal goals, dreams, and bucket lists. No one really noticed the Christians, because they focused on themselves. Very few of the believers were together. And when they were, they fought about stupid things." "If they sold anything, they used the money to buy something better for themselves. And they claimed to love God, but they didn't even love each other. So, they felt empty, alone, and depressed. And as a result, most people disliked them, and very few lives were changed." Acts 2:42-47 Modern Day Version

Romans 12:6-8 NIV

We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faithif it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teachif it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

We serve in the church to make a difference.

We serve as the church to shine His light.

Serving is Discipleship.

Matthew 5:14-16 NIV

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

They traded the glory of God who holds the whole world in his hands for cheap figurines you can buy at any roadside stand. Romans 1:23 The Message

3. We strive to be unbelievably connected.

Acts 2:46 NIV

Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts

The first-century believer desperately needed each other, and they knew it.

Believers today desperately need each other, and they have forgotten it.

Acts 6:1-7 NIV

In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables.Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to themand will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism.They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.

4. We plan to be unapologetically evangelistic.

God doesn't do what He does because of you. God what God does despite you.

· Which part of this message was most impactful for you and why?

· Read Acts 2:42-47. What things from this passage are you already doing? What’s one thing you’d like to start doing?

Acts 2:42 lists four areas the early church was devoted to: apostles’ teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayers. Which of these is easiest for you to be devoted to? Which is hardest? Why?

· Think about the things you’re devoted to. Are any of those things a hindrance to your devotion to God? What would your life look like if you focused on Him more?

· We can grow in our devotion to God by choosing to do one thing that moves us toward Him. What could that one thing be for you?

· How have God’s people impacted your life and relationship with Jesus through their devotion, generosity, and love?

Verse 47 says the early church enjoyed favor with all the people. Why do you think outsiders responded so positively?

How would you describe a vibrant, gospel-believing church to a non-Christian friend?

Commit to a step and live it out this week.
