On the Table: Deconstruction
Deconstruction: What it is, Why it's Destructive, How to Respond
We are putting the big questions on the table. The big questions you and your friends have asked about God. Questions such as: Why is there suffering? Why are people abandoning their faith? Is Jesus the only way to God? What does God say about the transgender movement? The Scripture does not avoid your questions and God is not frustrated by them. God welcomes us with our questions and meets us with His grace and truth. Join us for our new series, On the Table, as we unpack several pressing questions confronting the Christian faith.

Generosity Through Giving
• Maybe you have a loved one who is deconstructing their faith, and you are struggling to know how to respond;
• Maybe your relationship with a loved one has been strained or even cut off because of your “toxic” Christian beliefs and you don’t know what to do;
• Maybe you’re experiencing doubt yourself and facing hard questions about truth, God, the Bible, theology and the gospel.
Some who leave the faith feel wounded by the church. Others feel repressed by some of the moral imperatives found in Scripture. For some, it leads to a custom-made spirituality. For others, deconstructing their faith leads them away from the truth into agnosticism, atheism, the occult, or humanism.
It's a postmodern process of reassessing your faith without Scripture as a standard.
Deconstruction leads to destruction when it abandons a biblical Jesus for a palatable Jesus.
Reruns
1. Extend the Faith
2. Contend for the Faith
3. Defend the Faith
1. Jesus and the gospel: The gospel says our sin is more shameful than we care to admit, but Jesus loves us more than we can imagine.
2. Justification: I am saved from the penalty of the sin in the past. It's once and for all. (Romans 3:28).
3. Sanctification: I am saved from the power of sin and made more and more like Jesus. (John 17:17).
4. Glorification: I will be saved from the presence of sin forever and ever in the future. (1 John 3:2).
5.Relational: Jesus isn't a button to be pushed but a relationship to be pursued.
Do we understand biblical faith?
Some disgrace grace by saying it doesn't matter how you live.
Some erase truth by saying it doesn't matter what you believe.
Jesus says I am the way to grace and truth.
Are you ever tempted to exchange a biblical Jesus for a palatable Jesus? Does Matthew 7:13-20 influence your view on this?
Are there areas of your life where personal autonomy trumps biblical authority? Does Colossians 2:6-9 sway your view?
Do you embrace the belief that Jesus doesn’t run away when we move away? How can you live this out?
How does the idea that Jesus is a relationship to be pursued influence how you view the concept of deconstruction?
Are there fallacies in your view of Jesus or Scripture you’ve had to discard?
Pastor Joe mention three ways of wrestling with faith:
Doubting – Wrestling with aspects of what you believe.
Disentangling – Separating unbiblical beliefs from your faith.
Disenculturating – Separating cultural expressions from faith.
Discuss how you’ve been able to use those concepts to get a better view of an authentic Jesus.
Do you have a handle on how to deal with hypocrisy? How would you help people walk through church hurt?
Jude mentions teachers who say it doesn’t matter how you live or it doesn’t matter what you believe. Which is a stronger temptation for you personally?
