It's Not Over

Jesus demonstrated his power during his lifetime. By healing, forgiving, walking on water, and rising from the dead, Jesus declares himself the Son of God and prepares us to witness with fresh eyes his greatest power on Easter morning: his power over life and death for all time and all people. Our own power to believe and thrive in faith grows as we tap into the power he repeatedly demonstrates.

Generosity Through Giving

We want to thank those of you who give faithfully and systematically to our church. We hope you know how important your giving is to what God is doing at FBC Seminole, in our community, and across the planet through the different ministries we are able to partner with through your financial generosity. We've fixed plumbing, remodeled kitchens, replaced shingles, celebrated our teachers, and made  a difference in a host of other opportunities. Your generosity matters. We offer Financial Peace University on a consistent basis for those who need financial help.  It's a financial management system that allows multitudes to eliminate debt and live in freedom. Text the amount you want to give to 84321.

While he was saying this, a synagogue leader came and knelt before him and said, “My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.”Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples.Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed at that moment. When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipeshe said, “Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep.” But they laughed at him. After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up.News of this spread through all that region. As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!”When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” “Yes, Lord,” they replied. Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you”and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one knows about this.”But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region. While they were going out, a man who was demon-possessed and could not talk was brought to Jesus. And when the demon was driven out, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowd was amazed and said, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.”But the Pharisees said, “It is by the prince of demons that he drives out demons.”Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Faith takes your deepest needs and burdens to Jesus.

You get to Jesus, and He will get to you.

Commonalities:

• They had no control over their conditions.

• They all ran out of options from a human perspective.

• Problems are inevitable. Overwhelmed is optional. Bring it to Jesus.

A. They had no control over their Conditions
The thing you try to control the most may be the place you trust God the least.

Your focus determines your faith.

Where your focus goes - grows.

B. They all ran out of options from a human perspective.

Helplessness is an incubator of hope.

Sometimes we ask God to make life better, and He says learn to do harder better.

Turn over your cares to the One who cares.

C. Problems are inevitable. Overwhelmed is Optional.

Jesus is larger and louder than the lies.

There is no challenge that's greater than His capacity and compassion.

Implications:
1. Faith grows in direct proportion to your desperation.
2. Inadequacy is our friend.
3. Jesus want to speak life into our dead circumstances.
4. We need to see, feel, and do compassion.

Here are some discussion questions for Matthew 9:18-38, which covers Jesus healing the ruler’s daughter, the woman with the issue of blood, two blind men, a mute man, and His compassion for the crowds.

Faith and Healing (Verses 18-26)
1. What do the actions of the ruler and the woman with the issue of blood reveal about their faith in Jesus?
2. How does Jesus’ response to both the woman and the ruler demonstrate His power and compassion?
3. What do these situations tell us about our lack of control? Where do you have difficulty trusting God?
4. How can the focus of our faith impact our challenges? Where do you need to do a tight shot and focus?

Healing of the Blind and Mute (Verses 27-34)
5. Jesus asks the blind men, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” Why do you think He asks them this before healing them?
6. How can helplessness be an incubator of hope?
7. How can inadequacy be our friend?

Compassion for the Crowds (Verses 35-38)
8. Verse 36 says Jesus had compassion on the crowds because they were “harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” What does this tell us about Jesus’ heart for people?
9. Why does Jesus compare the spiritual need of the people to a harvest, and what does this mean for us as His followers today?
10 Jesus calls for more workers for the harvest. How can we respond to this call in our own lives?
