Get up and Go!

Jesus demonstrated his power during his lifetime. By healing, forgiving, walking on water, and rising from the dead, Jesus declares himself the Son of God and prepares us to witness with fresh eyes his greatest power on Easter morning: his power over life and death for all time and all people. Our own power to believe and thrive in faith grows as we tap into the power he repeatedly demonstrates.

Generosity Through Giving

We want to thank those of you who give faithfully and systematically to our church. We hope you know how important your giving is to what God is doing at FBC Seminole, in our community, and across the planet through the different ministries we are able to partner with through your financial generosity. We've fixed plumbing, remodeled kitchens, replaced shingles, celebrated our teachers, and made  a difference in a host of other opportunities. Your generosity matters. We offer Financial Peace University on a consistent basis for those who need financial help.  It's a financial management system that allows multitudes to eliminate debt and live in freedom. Text the amount you want to give to 84321.

It's not what is happening that's the issue. It's the story you tell yourself about what's happening that's more important.

Miracles gain meaning when you put muscles to the skeleton.

It us helpful to understand the basic outline of Matthew 8–9 as we examine these miracle stories and descriptions of discipleship. Here is a general guide to these chapters:

• Three Miracle Stories (8:1-17)

• Two Descriptions of Discipleship (8:18-22)

• Three Miracle Stories (8:23–9:8)

• Two Descriptions of Discipleship (9:9-17)

• Three Miracle Stories (9:18-34)

i. carry on -
Some of us have been damaged by those who should have developed us.

We often hide our damage behind disguises.

What brings healing is realizing grace says you belong at the Father's table.

ii. take it on
Jesus uses your greatest felt need to satisfy your deepest need,
iii. get up

The bottom line of Matthew 8-9 is Jesus possesses absolute authority

Discussion Questions (Read Matthew 9:1-8 together. Respond to what stands out)

Here are some discussion questions on Matthew 9:2-8, where Jesus heals the paralyzed man and forgives his sins:

Understanding the Passage
1. Why do you think Jesus first tells the paralyzed man that his sins are forgiven instead of immediately healing him?

2. What does this passage teach about Jesus’ authority over both physical and spiritual matters?

3. How do the scribes react to Jesus’ words, and why do they accuse Him of blasphemy?

Application to Life

4. In what ways do people today struggle to believe in Jesus’ power to forgive sins?

5. How can this passage encourage someone dealing with guilt or shame?

6. The paralyzed man was brought to Jesus by his friends. What does this teach us about the role of community in faith?

7. Jesus demonstrates both spiritual and physical healing. How can we reflect His compassion in our own lives?
