The Bible in Context: Roman Culture in the New Testament (Online Available)
10 sessions, Tanner Moore, teacher
The New Testament was penned in a Roman world. From the roads people walked on, to the languages they spoke, to the taxes they paid, the entire Mediterranean world understood what it meant to be Roman. It makes sense, then, that the New Testament uses popular Roman figures, metaphors, sayings, and ceremonies to convey its message; and it also makes sense that many modern readers miss these allusions in the text. This class will attempt to point out various places in the New Testament where the authors are specifically referencing imagery from the Roman world, revealing a message that still holds relevance for the modern-day. Each session will also be streamed on our Facebook page and YouTube channel. Contact the office for details.
